SEASON 2019/20
THE NEW REVOLT 121
An 8-person team of developers, including Lead Engineer Lucas Romain and Product and Team Manager Jean-Claude Pedrolini, worked with squad members Markus Eder, Paddy Graham, Fabio Studer, Colter Hinchliffe, Tanner Rainville, Sam Smoothy and Tom Ritsch, for nearly a year crafting the new Revolt 121.
SEASON 2020-2022
THE REVOLT 104
In April 2018, Schinka approached the team to develop an all new, all mountain ski - the REVOLT 104. The testing and developing of the Revolt 121 was still on going and the athletes involved were the perfect all-rounders to work on this new product. The first REVOLT 104 prototype was tested that September in Bariloche, Argentina.
The visual design is also being handled in the same spirit as the rest of the campaign, with various international artists invited to work with our hero skiers on dreaming up a fresh look for the skis.
KEN GRIFFEN
The ski graphics for the 2019/20 season are designed by New Zealand artist Ken Griffen, himself a passionate skier. "For me it was a perfect project, and the collaboration with the athletes was really something special. You could see the knowledge and experience flowing together into a design that really took on an identity of its own.“
BEN BROUGH
The ‘Built Together’ story continues across the globe, our featured artist this year is Ben Brough with his ‘Spirit Animal’ collection.
Ben lives in the costal city of Costa Mesa, California. Growing up on surf culture he is rooted to nature and action sports. Self-taught; from an early age Ben knew he wanted to be an artist but wasn’t quite sure what that meant.
As an artist, Ben is known to work in the mediums of painting, collage and sculpture. His poetic childlike scrawl evokes a raw mythical impact with humorous undertones.
King Rhomberg
For the 2022/23 season, Völkl managed to recruit the renowned Chinese artist King Rhomberg to create their product designs. “Each ski has been designed for a different discipline—from park skis to back country skis. As a result, there were numerous discussions about the design in the beginning. In the process, I came up with the idea of using different methods or materials and developing individual designs,” says the artist about the creation process. For the graphics of the new Freestyle collection, he used numerous different techniques and combined them in different ways: from watercolors and collages, to photographs and graphics, and even traditional Chinese art painting.
“Even when I was a kid, I always dreamed of having a sponsor and my own pro model. That’s why I find it extremely exciting to work with the Built Together team. And although I am not the athlete, I still feel very honored that my designs are being used!”
An unbridled passion for skiing and global mountain culture are shared obsessions that link not just our athletes, but also our engineers and commissioned artists as well. »BUILT TOGETHER« is intended to capture this devotion, welding it with our unmatched knowledge of product expertise. It`s mission is to pursue new paths and create something extraordinary in the process. The idea is to directly involve the athletes in ski development, with the goal of creating skis that fit their wants and desires perfectly.
»I've always enjoyed taking part in product development, but this time the athletes are more strongly involved than in any project before. We all spend a lot of time traveling and skiing all around the world in all kinds of conditions. If we take our experience and blend it with the brilliance of the engineers, there's this fantastic chance to make a truly remarkable ski «
